When my mom married my dad in 1981, she wore wide brimmed white hat with attached veil (I’ll have to steal a picture next time I’m at her house and post it, because it’s just too 80s not to). I never considered going with a hat (although I’ve seen some little caps that are really cute), but I did wonder if I wanted a veil at all.
There are so many options these days. I could choose a flower, a tiara, a jeweled headband, a hair broach, or a birdcage if I decided not to go the traditional veil route. I tried a lot of different option on when I finally selected my dress. But for me, I just didn’t feel like a bride until I had the veil on. I chose a very simple shoulder-length veil that will be pinned into my half up/half down wedding day do. I’ll only wear it for the ceremony, and I also got a flower to wear for the reception.
